The Experience Based Cognition Project is putting together a research team to push the envelope of understanding the brain mechanisms used to experience life.  This project involves bringing together a core group of Pittsburgh researchers with a network of experts around the world in cognition, cognitive neuroscience, imaging, semantic analysis, affect, memory, and movie techniques.

We are looking for smart, creative people who are up for this challenging work. We are currently seeking candidates to fill several positions at the University of Pittsburgh main campus.

Research Assistant: A full-time post-baccalaureate research assistant position is available beginning early Summer 2007. The ideal candidate would have a bachelor’s degree with a strong record in Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, Biology, Cognitive Science, Philosophy, or related fields.  We’re seeking applicants with well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent computer and quantitative knowledge, and strong self-motivation. Previous research experience, including behavioral and neuroimaging methods and analyses, is highly desirable. Responsibilities will include subject recruitment, designing and facilitating experiments, and data analysis. Minimum two-year commitment is required. Send resume and statement of research interests by email to schlab@pitt.edu or by mail to Schneider Lab, LRDC 627, 3939 O’Hara Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15260.

Postdoctoral position in fMRI of executive, emotion, and memory function: This exciting research project will use functional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging techniques to map brain architecture and processes supporting experience-based cognition. Structural and temporal aspects of executive function, emotional processing, and memory relating to information processing of continuous event streams (e.g., watching movies) will be examined. Expertise in functional imaging methods, acquisition and analysis is preferred, and experience with computational modeling is advantageous. Postdoctoral fellows will be part of a large, active, and friendly community of fMRI laboratories in a collaborative environment, with opportunities for original research. Send CV and statement of research interests by email to schlab@pitt.edu or by mail to Schneider Lab, LRDC 627, 3939 O’Hara Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15260.

Undergraduate Research Assistants: There are a variety of research opportunities to design and execute behavioral and brain imaging studies. Behavioral studies examine learning and cognitive function. The brain imaging involves processing large data sets. Students should be familiar with use of spread sheets, word processing and basic data analysis. Attention to detail, computer skills, and ability to learn are a must. Background in psychology, neuroscience and/or computers is a plus. To apply, please email: schlab@pitt.edu

Undergraduate Programmers: There are a variety of research opportunities for research programming in scientific programming, image processing, real time cognitive experimentation and multimedia programming. The brain imaging involves processing large data sets developing analysis and visualization programs. Students should be familiar C++ and UNIX. Good coding and ability to learn are a must. To apply, please email: schlab@pitt.edu
